Vaulted tombs of Peristeria, Mycenaean period
During the period 1952-1966 archaeological excavations were carried out in the region Peristeria in Messenia, Peloponnese. Mycenaean vaulted tombs and parts of settlements were found. Although the tombs had already been looted since ancient times, a large number of golden objects were rescued revealing the residents’ wealth. The most impressive and fine finds were gold foiled bees that decorated women’s dresses.
